Little Rambunctious
Technically, I guess you could call A Little Rambunctious a Jazz band; four horns and a drummer, improvising songs in the traditions of swing, jazz, and jump blues, among others. But their show is so much more than that. It is pure cabaret: a band of characters ripping it up with the freedom and careless spirit of a punk band. They are an off-shoot of the larger 13-piece band Rambunctious and “You make up a song title, We make up a song” is the band's motto. They get a title from the audience, decide a key and a form, then launch into a new song, complete with lyrics, harmonies, choruses, the lot. But be clear, this is not some experimental artistic exploration, it's a party.

The band is lead by Michael Louis Johnson, notorious singing bartender at the Communist's Daughter (OG of Canadian SwingPunk legend Big Rude Jake, and currently touring with Balkan, Guerrilla folk rebels Lemon Bucket Orkestra). Ian and Nate are also with LBO, while the two Bens are members of the critically acclaimed group, the Holy Gasp.

A Little Rambunctious formed in October 2013 and has since enjoyed a weekly residencies at the Whippoorwil and Civil Liberties every Thursday (when the boys aren't touring with their other band, Lemon Bucket Orkestra). They have played on bigger stages for various Electro Swing Club Toronto events, as well as the Wavelength Stage at the Junction Music Festival and they are slightly notorious for the odd stint of restaurant-hopping, guerrilla busking tours.
